Dilan appointed as Assistant Secretary of SLFP
I am pleased to be appointed as an Assistant Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party during the recent Party General meeting held under the new leader, HE, Mithreepala Sirisena.
I started my political career with the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party headed by late Wijeya Kumarathunga and then joined SLFP under the leadership of Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Since then, I have been a loyal member of the SLFP who stood up to protect party policies and the vision shared by its leader.
SLFP has decided to support the 100 day programme promised by HE Sirisena to the nation. We would stand by the President and support his programme and the minority government formed by Ranil Wickremasinghe with 47 members in parliament, despite having parliamentary majority with 127 members. This is a display of respect SLFP has for the mandate given by people to the New President and respect for democracy. As a party we made a conscious choice to sit in the opposition and support as necessary as well as pressurize the government to deliver on promises made to people. As an active member of SLFP I will continue to do that in order to hold the new government accountable.
I take this opportunity to salute the people of Badulla District for electing me to Parliament for almost 3 decades.
Member of Parliament
Dear colleagues and friends,
I thank you for all your support tendered during my tenure as Minister of Foreign Employment
Promotion and Welfare.
Since the President who appointed me was defeated in the elections yesterday, I believe I have no right to hold my portfolio any further. Therefore, I have handed over my resignation and with my vehicles, and forego all other privileges provided for a Cabinet Minister. I have instructed my personal staff to do the same.
I have served the people with honesty and to my full capacity, with a clear vision. I believe I have made a few but valuable contributions to the Foreign Employment Industry. From now on, I will be serving as a Member of the Opposition and try my best to force the new government to implement the mandate sought from the people of my country.
I like to take this opportunity to renew my thanks to all for the assistance provided during the last 4 years.
